So after floating around forever in search of an employee, I finally found one and approached him. I found some pretty tile here, and was interested in getting details on it. Actually there’s a lot that Expo has in common with the SFDC: some beautiful stuff, high prices, and the feeling that your aren’t gonna get any customer service unless you have membership in the Bitchy Baller’s Design Club. The problem eventually got solved, but only by sheer tenacity and resolve on my part… not through the helpfulness of the Expo staff. Blah blah blah blah blah blah… even I’m getting bored telling this story. He seemed happy to tell me that the manager I was supposed to meet with had just stepped out to lunch. The same asshole that stonewalled me the first time was back at the customer service counter, and he immediately recognized me and made some snippy comment about me returning. After waiting a few weeks, I heard from her, so I went back in to try again. Since nobody could tell me when the manager would be returning from her vacation, I left my number, and asked them to have her call me when she got back. Ultimately, I had to pack up and head home with the situation completely unresolved. I understand that retail stores are pretty inefficient and bound by bureaucracy, and as a result, most of their employees have little power or discretion to handle tough situations, but this dude wasn’t even slightly interested in trying to find someone who could help me. No matter how I tried to explain the situation to the employee at the «customer service» desk, he wouldn’t budge.

It turns out she was on vacation, and nobody bothered to read the information she left behind regarding my situation. The manager who approved our return over the phone was no where to be found when I showed up with the merchandise to be returned. The problem here seems to be poor communication and lack of experience. A simple errand I was supposed to run for my boss was dragged out over the course of weeks, and ended up taking hours to work out. Long of it… read on… First and foremost, let me note that I was treated with absolutely zero respect by their sales staff. Don’t bother reading the rest of my review.

Short of it: This place has beautiful items for your home design needs, but their staff just sucks. Use Closet Dimensions/Closet World, the Expo subcontractor at your own peril. Two weeks later, no call back, no refund. I called the next day - «Sorry, I don’t know why I called you.» I eventually spoke to someone in the Expo customer service section named Jimmy, ( 714− 935− 5022) who PROMISED he would deal with the situation, refund the portion of the work we were not satisfied with and call me back with information on Friday, November 28, 2008. Finally received a call from Annabell at Expo Deisgn who left a message. Never received the promised supervisor calls. He never received the promised call from the supervisor, so completed, collected his paperwork and left.
#GRANITE EXPO EMERYVILLE INSTALL#
Well, too late, the intaller completed the install dispite his answer «yes, okay» when told not to do the one room while these preliminary calls were going on. We finally were told a supervisor would call to address removing the questionable closet from the order and would contact the installer. Expo told us to call the Closet company, who told us to call Expo. When the installer arrived who we had difficulty communicating with due to language barriers, he was instructed to not begin work on one of three closest due to questions about the design while we called the parent company and Expo. The attic space is now barely accessable and the odd shape design poorly implemented.

There were several areas of concern such as an odd shaped spaced, an attic access panel, that we specfically noted. The diagrams did not make a lot of sense to us, however the Designer «promised» we’d like the final product. The designer seemed to understand what we discribed and drew a picture that seemed to represent what we discribed.

The Designer made a point of saying the company that worked with Expo was the parent company for all other custom closet compainies in the Bay Area. We contracted wtih Expo Design for custom closet storage units.
